Android 101: How to find your Android’s Easter Egg
Welcome to the latest&
&in our series of easy-to-follow tutorials which are ideal for new Android users. In this article, we are going to look at something that doesn’t serve much purpose, but is pretty cool all the same.
Since Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Google have hidden ‘Easter Eggs’ in their mobile operating systems, that is still or animated representations of their dessert flavored logo. So, with Gingerbread you see a still image called ‘Zombie art’ by Jack Larson (you can view Jack’s other work&
). It looks like this:
With Honeycomb (Android 3.0+, which was tablet-specific), you can find an Android Bee, which kinda buzzes at you.
With Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) things got a little more interesting. Initially you see a 8-bit Android image with an Ice Cream Sandwich body. If you press and hold the image he grows larger and larger before disappearing and is replaced by a ‘Nyandroid’ image of Androids floating through space,
Jelly Bean (Android 4.1+) is more interactive than ever, but let’s start the tutorial so you can find it on your own device. Firs things first, head to your settings and scroll right to the bottom, you’re looking for the

The Jelly Bean Easter Egg is pretty cool. If you press and hold it, the screen will switch to ‘BeanFlinger’ mode. Beans will float across the screen at random, but you can easily flick them away with your finger!
Wonderfully, its use doesn’t stop there. Android Jelly Bean has a feature called ‘Daydream’ which is essentially like a screensaver. Once you trigger the BeanFlinger Easter Egg, it becomes a Daydream option!
As mentioned, there isn’t a whole lot of use to the Android Easter Eggs, but they are cool things to find and a huge percentage of Android users might not be aware they even exist.
